Corelli, Arcangelo

(1653-1713), Italian composer and violinist, studied in Lugo and Faenza first, then finally in Bologna, went to Rome, led Roman Orchestra. His sonatas were widely performed and often reprinted, both as ideal practice material for students and as models for composers. He composed five volumes of sonatas, concerti grossi, and other violin pieces.
