Copland, Aaron

(1900-1990), American composer, conductor and pianist, at young age he started to learn piano from his sister and other teachers, then studied at American Conservatory at Fontainbeau in Paris, returned to New York in 1924; received Guggenheim Fellowships, toured Latin America and Mexico, taught at Harvard, cofounding the Yaddo Festivals, American Composers Alliance and lifelong association with Berkshire Music Center; he composed 2 operas, ballets(Rodeo, Appalachian Spring), symphonies, 8 film scores, Lincoln Portrait, 1 piano concerto, overtures etc.
