Borodin, Alexander

(1833-1887), Russian composer, studied chemistry and medicine at the Academy of Medicine in St. Petersburg, receiving doctorate in chemistry, married a pianist and she became his musical companion, he was professor of chemistry at the Insitute, met Balakirev who encouraged him to be more seriously engaged in music. He is principally remembered for his opera "Prince Igor"(completed by Rimsky-Korsakov and Glazonov), he composed 1 symphony, and string quartets. The stamp showing a scene from "Prince Igor".
