Boito, Arrigo


(1842-1918), Italian composer and librettist, studied at the Milan Conservatory, went to Paris and met Verdi, Rossini, Berlioz. Returned to Milan, wrote libretos for Verdi(Otello, Falstaff) and Ponchielli(La Gioconda), his opera was conducted by Toscanini, he also translated Wagner's works(Rienzi, Tristan), he composed operas(Nerone, Mefistofele).
