Humperdinck, Engelbert

(1854-1921), German composer, studied at the Cologne Conservatory, and Munich Music School, winning Mozart and mendelssohn prizes, Wagner invited him to be his assistant at Bayreuth, eventually as Wagner's successor. He taught at Barcelona, Cologne, and Hoch conservatories, conducted Cologne Theater and Bayreuth Festival. He composed operas(Hansel und Gretel).
