Glinka, Mikhail

(1804-1857), Russian composer, studied at St. Petersburg, frequented the salons as a delettante musician, he composed taking as his early models the operas of Rossini and the French music, went to Italy and met Bellini..., returned to Russia and started compose Russian operas, and continued to study with other well known composers at the time. Glinka is considered the "Father of Russian Opera".
