Distler, Hugo


(1908-1942), German composer, studied at the Leipzig Conservatory, became orgainst at St. Jacobi in Lubeck in 1931, and taught at school, became professor of church music in Stuttgart, his deep religious roots strongly influenced his composition style. His pieces are very polyphonic, free and frequently melismatic, he composed mostly church choral music.
