Paisiello, Giovanni


(1740-1816), Italian composer, studied at the Jesuit school in Taranto and at the Conservatorio di S. Onofrio in Naples, served as a court composer in St. Petersburg to Catherine II of Russia, returned to Naples and served as music director of the court in Naples.
He composed over 80 operas, oratorios, masses etc. Napoleon Bonaparte was a great admirer of his music.
